Founded in 1995 by Hilda and Earl Jones, Abacela was built on a scientific quest to find America's ideal Tempranillo-growing climate—and Southern Oregon's Umpqua Valley proved to be the answer. Through rigorous climate analysis and 25 variety site trials, the Joneses established one of Oregon's most distinctive and diverse estates, now led by winemaker Andrew Wenzl. Using a gravity flow system and small-batch processing, Abacela crafts terroir-driven wines that honor the Old World roots of each variety. Their portfolio spans Spanish and European varietals including Tempranillo, Albariño, Grenache, Syrah, Malbec, Dolcetto, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon—wines with depth, character, and a story unlike anything else in Oregon.
